Former Pakistani cricketer Sarfaraz Nawaz has expressed his belief that Pakistan’s cricket team, under the leadership of Babar Azam, enters the upcoming Asia Cup and ODI World Cup with greater stability and readiness compared to their arch-rivals, India.

Nawaz’s perspective is rooted in his careful assessment of India’s ongoing struggle to establish effective on-field coordination, particularly evident in their lingering uncertainty surrounding the middle-order composition.

As the highly anticipated Asia Cup approaches, set to commence on August 31, India faces the challenging predicament of not having firmly settled their middle-order lineup, thereby casting a shadow of doubt over their team cohesion.

Nawaz’s conclusion stems from his perception of Babar’s squad as possessing a more consolidated and balanced composition, in stark contrast to the ongoing uncertainties within the Indian team.

During a media interaction in Lahore, Nawaz candidly stated, “Pakistan has a much more settled and stable outfit for the Asia Cup and World Cup when compared to India. The Indians have still not been able to work out their final combination for these major events.”

Nawaz elaborated on the apparent instability within the Indian team, citing frequent captain changes and ongoing experimentation with new players that have hindered the development of a cohesive unit.

He went on to express his concerns that the current approach may be detrimental to the progress of Indian cricket, emphasizing, “Captains are changing, many new players are being tried out, there are no proper combinations. I feel instead of developing the Indian side it is being destroyed.”

Furthermore, Nawaz highlighted the unique pressures that India will face as the host nation of the forthcoming World Cup. With a decade-long drought in securing an ICC title, the weight of expectations could cast a significant psychological burden on the players.

He acknowledged that while playing at home comes with heightened expectations and pressure, India’s advantage lies in the presence of experienced senior players who can contribute positively to the team’s performance.

Notably, Nawaz drew attention to the 2011 World Cup, when India emerged victorious on home soil under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. The team’s triumph in the final against Sri Lanka at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium serves as a reminder of India’s potential to excel under pressure and deliver on the global stage.
