Former cricketer Pragyan Ojha feels Team India needs to give Shubman Gill more time in Test cricket. The youngster has been going through a lean run in the red-ball format. He was dismissed cheaply in the first Test against England at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad.

Shubman Gill batted one down for India in the match. He managed to score only 23 runs from 66 deliveries and did not look much comfortable. He has been brilliant for India in white-ball cricket but hasn’t been able to replicate the same in the longer format. Gill has scored 1063 runs at an average of 30.37, with two centuries and four fifties. Talking about Shubman Gill, Pragyan Ojha said,

“If you want to remove a player, then it’ll take just two minutes, but if you’ve to build a player (Shubman Gill), then you’ve to give him time. He is looking slightly out of his colour. We know his talent. This is a five-game series. So, you can give him one or two matches. You have the cushion. Give him some time to find himself.”

“If you talk about Rahul Dravid and Cheteshwar Pujara, they used to play differently. There’s no trademark to play in a particular way at No. 3,” he added.

England needs at least a 150-run lead: Pragyan Ojha

Former cricketer Pragyan Ojha further expressed that England need at least a 150-run second-innings lead to make a comeback in the test match. India has taken a 175-run lead at the end of the second day’s play. They will be keen to take the lead past 250, with Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel still at the crease.

“175 is a huge lead, especially the way the ball has started to turn. There’s a lot of wear and tear. England need at least a 150-run lead in the second innings to make a comeback. They will now be thinking about how to save the game,” said Pragyan Ojha.

“If Jadeja and Axar continue to bat, India won’t even think about the declaration because they have three days. They won’t get any bonus points. All they need is to win. Whenever England comes out to bat, they have to bide their time and play as per the situation, and re-evaluate themselves,” he added.
