Renowned Indian and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batsman Virat Kohli recently shared a humorous insight into his post-match dietary indulgences during an RCB promotional event.
When questioned about his preferred indulgence after a match, Kohli jokingly remarked that there’s no need for guilt, and one can indulge freely. He then gestured towards Mohammed Siraj, comparing the physical demands faced by batters and bowlers, highlighting their differences during a match.
Kohli highlighted that bowlers are constrained by the need to bowl a set number of overs, affecting their dietary options. Conversely, batters face the possibility of their match ending with just one ball, suggesting they may have more freedom to enjoy their favorite treats post-match.
“There is no guilt after the match, you can eat freely. This is a fast bowler’s topic because he has to bowl four overs. Hamara match toh 1 ball mein bhi khatam ho sakta hai (My match could even end in one ball). So we would have to see whether to eat that or not.ā
For bowlers, it is easier. They know that they would have to sprint for 24 balls,” said Kohli.

Kohli’s candid and amusing reply highlighted the divergent experiences of batters and bowlers in cricket. While bowlers must sustain their stamina and endurance throughout the game, batters might have a shorter duration on the field, potentially affording them greater latitude in their post-match food selections.
In essence, Kohli’s comments offered an amusing and enlightening perspective into the mentality of a professional cricketer, underscoring the distinct challenges encountered by batters and bowlers while infusing the conversation with wit and humor.
RCB will face Shubman Gill’s struggling Gujarat Titans in the 52nd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday.
