The suspense surrounding Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement in India’s squad for the upcoming 2022 T20 World Cup came to an end on Friday, October 14. The Board of Control for Cricket in India named pacer Mohammed Shami as Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement for the mega-tournament. Some fans were displeased with Shami’s inclusion ahead of in-form Mohammed Siraj.

Mohammed Shami last played a T20I for India in November 2021 against Namibia in the 2021 T20 World Cup. He took six wickets in five matches, at an economy rate of 8.84 in the tournament. Since then, he was sidelined from India’s plans in T20I matches. However, Bumrah’s injured opened the door for Shami’s comeback.

“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Mohammed Shami as Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement in India’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup squad. Shami has reached Australia and will link up with the squad in Brisbane ahead of the warm-up matches,” the BCCI stated in its media release.

Some fans were upset with the Indian selector’s decision to include Mohammed Shami ahead of Mohammed Siraj in the T20 World Cup squad. Siraj will travel to Australia as a backup option. He was in good form for India in the recently concluded ODI series against South Africa. The pacer picked five wickets in three matches and won the Player of the Series award for his performance.

Let’s take a look at how fans reacted to Mohammed Siraj’s exclusion:
