Former India cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar feels Hardik Pandya is definitely a future captaincy option for India in the long term. The all-rounder is currently leading a second-string Indian team in Ireland for a two-match T20I series. He was given the captaincy role, as regular skipper Rohit Sharma, and other senior players are busy with the preparations for the upcoming fifth rescheduled Test match against England.

Hardik Pandya’s leadership skills came to the fore recently in the Indian Premier League 2022 season. He led the Gujarat Titans to a title win in their debut season. The all-rounder led the team from the front, contributing well for his team in the tournament. His captaincy earned him praise from many former cricketers and experts.

Former India cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar expressed that he sees Hardik Pandya as an option for India captaincy in the future. At the launch of the 1983 World Cup Opus, a limited edition coffee table book published in association with Paymentz, he said,

“Yes, why not. He is an option. It depends on the selectors, they are the ones watching. It is on the basis of what vision and plans they have. Hardik definitely gives you an option.”

A very fine all-rounder: Dilip Vengsarkar showers praise on Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya was part of the Indian team for the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. However, after the mega-event, he was dropped from the team. Following his brilliant performance in the IPL 2022, the right-handed batter was included in the Indian team.

Former India cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar termed Hardik as a “very fine all-rounder”. He highlighted the 28-year-old’s performance in the final of the Indian Premier League 2022 season. Vengsarkar also expressed that Hardik Pandya being an all-rounder has a very important role in the team.

“It is a great thing that he came back. He must have worked very hard on his fitness. He did very well in IPL as a captain. A very fine all-rounder. He came in to bat at the fall of two wickets. So, he led from the front and was there in batting and bowling. He guided the team very well. It was his first tournament as a captain and he did very well. An all-rounder plays a very important role in any team,” Vengsarkar said
