Hashim Amla announces retirement from International Cricket

South African opener Hashim Amla has announced his retirement from all formats of international cricket today. This comes as a huge shock for Cricket Southafrica which is currently undergoing renovations for its operations.

After making his test debut in 2004, Amla has achieved several feats in International cricket. Though he was primarily known as a test player, he proved wrong after making his ODI debut in 2008.

In his 15 years of International career, Amla scored more than 18,000 runs across all the formats. The 36-year-old also has over 55 International centuries to his name.

Amla hasn”t been at his best for some time now. His form dipped and it proved to be one of the major reasons behind Southafrica”s failure at World Cup 2019. However, he announced that he will be available for domestic tournaments.

Over the years, Amla has been the backbone for the proteas side across all the formats. His adaptability has been the finest aspects that defined him as a quality player, as legends say. The proteas will now have to groom another youngster ahead of the Indian tour as his replacement.

This news has certainly created dull faces across cricket fans as the news comes in the same week after Dale Steyn”s announcement.
