RP Singh proposes that India should reintroduce Ishan Kishan for the fourth T20I against the West Indies and position him at the batting slot number 5. On Saturday, August 12, the fourth match of the five-game series will take place in Lauderhill, Florida. The Indian team, trailing 1-2, aims to level the series before the concluding match on the following day at the same location.
While conversing on JioCinema, RP Singh was posed with the question of whether India should stick with Yashasvi Jaiswal or reintroduce Ishan Kishan to the lineup. In response, he stated:
“It doesn’t work out with just one chance. According to me, Ishan should play at No. 5 if you see him at No. 5 for the (ODI) World Cup. If KL Rahul is unavailable in the future, Ishan Kishan is his backup option. So he has to learn to play at No. 5.”
The ex-Indian fast bowler highlighted that the Jharkhand wicketkeeper-batsman probably won’t secure a spot at the beginning of the lineup in the forthcoming ODI World Cup. He explained:
“When Rohit Sharma comes, Rohit and Shubman Gill will open, although Gill’s performance has slightly saddened our hearts. But still if both of them open, where can Ishan Kishan get a place, it is down the order.”
Sanju Samson could be replaced if Hardik Pandya and his team choose to have Kishan bat at No. 5. Samson, the wicketkeeper-batsman from Kerala, struggled in the first two T20Is but didn’t get a chance to bat in the third match.
“You should give him at least three, four or five matches” – RP Singh’s thoughts on Yashasvi Jaiswal
RP Singh suggests that India should provide Yashasvi Jaiswal with additional opportunities at the beginning of the lineup. He explained:
“You cannot give a player just one match. According to me, you should give him at least three, four or five matches. You get to see the fearless approach in one match. If he scores runs, he continues with the same approach in the next match. If he doesn’t score runs, a batter falls slightly behind.”
RP Singh also mentioned that batsmen should have an extended period in the team to enable them to play with a sense of freedom. He commented:
“However much you might say, when you are a part of the Indian team, there is an effect of your place, that you will remain a part of the team only if you perform. A player also has the hope that if you are playing him, you should give him a run of three or four matches, so that he can express himself with the bat.”
In the third T20I against West Indies, Jaiswal scored only one run. He’s set to be part of India’s squad for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland and Asian Games, where he’s expected to prove himself as an opener for Rajasthan Royals.
