Former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja has left out Dinesh Karthik from India’s T20I team for the upcoming mega-events, the Asia Cup 2022 and the 2022 T20 World Cup. The wicket-keeper batter made a comeback to the Indian T20I team earlier this year, after his batting exploits in the Indian Premier League. He has been in great form and has played the finisher’s role perfectly in the T20Is.
Dinesh Karthik has scored 192 runs in 14 innings at a strike rate of 133.33 this year. Batting lower down the order for India, he has played several effective knocks. The right-handed batter scored his first T20I fifty this year and has made a strong case for him ahead of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup.
Speaking on Fan code, former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja explained why he feels Dinesh Karthik won’t be in the team. He said,
“Now if you want to play the way I have heard them…aggressive then you have to pick differently. If Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma walk in, you need Dinesh Karthik at all costs. He is your insurance. But if you don’t have either of them then Dinesh Karthik has no work here. But yes I would not put Karthik there, he can have a seat beside me. He is very good as a commentator. But there, in the team, I would not pick him.”
Team India will play against Pakistan in their opening clash of the Asia Cup 2022 on August 28. They will be keen to defend their title this year in the United Arab Emirates.
I select bowlers first. So Shami is a certainty: Ajay Jadeja
Former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja picked his bowling attack for the mega-events. He expressed that Mohammed Shami is a certainty in his team. Interestingly, the pacer has not played a T20I for India since the ICC T20 World Cup last year. Jadeja further chose Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, and Deepak Hooda as the four certainties in his batting line-up.
“I have added Shami to the team. So for me, I select bowlers first. So Shami is a certainty. Bumrah, Arshdeep and Chahal. These are the four certainties. In batting, four are certainties for me – Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, and Deepak Hooda. For this bowling attack, you have powerplay, middle overs, and death overs sorted,” said Ajay Jadeja.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India, on Monday, announced the 15-member squad for the Asia Cup 2022. Rohit Sharma will be leading the Indian team, while KL Rahul will be his deputy. Meanwhile, pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel will miss the tournament due to injuries.
