Heinrich Klaasen Announces Retirement From Test Cricket

South African wicket-keeper batter Heinrich Klaasen announced his retirement from Test cricket on Monday, January 8. He released an emotional statement announcing the decision on social media. Klaasen’s decision comes in light of his name being overlooked for the recently concluded two-match Test series against India.

Heinrich Klaasen made his Test debut for South Africa in 2019 against India at Ranchi. He has played only four Test matches in four years, scoring 104 runs. Announcing his retirement decision on social media, the South African cricketer expressed that it’s been a difficult decision for him to retire from his “favourite format”. Klaasen wrote,

“After a few sleepless nights wondering if I am making the right decision, I have decided to Retire from RED Ball cricket. It’s a difficult decision that I have made because it is by far my favourite format of the game.”
