Here is How Much Money Cricket Umpires Earn

Umpiring is the toughest job in cricket to give decisions on the spot which can change the course of the match. The cricketers are paid so much money but the umpires also are paid a huge amount of money.

To become an umpire, the person needs to know all the rules of cricket. He must understand the game entirely. Elite umpires are chosen of former international cricketers who are appointed by ICC to oversee all test matches, ODI and T20I matches with the match referee. There are two types of umpires elite panel and a secondary panel called International panel.

The elite umpire’s basic salary is different and with more umpire experiencing the match fees of them is higher. The newcomer minimum salary in the elite panel is dollar 35 a year plus of course and the ODI fee which are more same for everybody.

The elite umpires who stand between 8-10 and 10-15 ODI’s matches in a year would be around $90, 000 to $10,000 and could jump further if there is some ICC tournament like 50 over World Cup, 20 World Cup or Champions Trophy.

Elite umpires also are given travel and accommodations allowances and it”s absolutely free. So besides the match fees and salary, they are given up to to 1 holiday with family in selected destinations.

The salary for elite umpires in test matches is $ 3K which means 2 Lakhs. In ODI’s the elite umpires get $2.2 K which means 1.5 Lakhs and for T20I matches, the umpires get 70 thousand.  Apart from yearly contracts, the umpires are given basic salary plus matches fees and are monitored for their performances.

The umpires get a promotion if they do a good job. Fly Emirates sponsor all 12 ICC elite panel umpires. For the year 2018, there are 12 umpires which include Aleem Dar who get $2,200 for test matches, $3,000 for test matches and $1,000 for T20Is. The total earning of Dar is $45,000.

Billy Bowden, Nigel Long, Paul Reiffel, Bruce Oxenford, Ian Gould, Kumar Dharamsena, Marais Erasmus, Richard Illingworth and Richard Kettleborough are the highest paid umpires in 2018.
