In his debut innings, Smith played a vital role on scripting a victory for the team, as he amassed 61 off just 41 deliveries. This knock included 8 boundaries and a six that helped Nationals to win the match against Vancouver Knights. The target of 228 was chased easily by Smith and NZ batsman Devcich as the latter was named MOM for his knock of 92.

Meanwhile, Steve Smith thanked all his fans who backed him during the “lowest” phase of his career. Smith along with Warner and Bancroft were involved in the infamous “sandpaper gate” where Bancroft was seen tampering the condition of the ball in the third test against Southafrica at Newlands in the month of February.

It is to be noted that Smith is currently under a ban for a year sanctioned by Cricket Australia and he isn”t allowed to take up the captaincy role for the next two years. The ODI squad missed his services as they faced an embarrassing defeat against England (5-0).

In his latest Instagram post, he said “It was great being back on the field yesterday and helping Toronto to first up win. Thanks, everyone for your support it”s really appreciated. Looking forward to the rest of the tournament.”

However, his ex-deputy David Warner failed to match the expectation levels of his fans. He was dismissed for just a single run before getting knocked down by Lasith Malinga. Though his side Winnipeg Hawks won the match, his form is still a worry.
