Former South African cricketer Herschelle Gibbs has confirmed his participation in the Kashmir Premier League via Twitter on Saturday. He will be playing for the team Overseas Warriors. Despite the tournament not getting BCCI’s recognition, it is all set to start from August 6 in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. KPL is being played in Pakistan occupied Kashmir between August 6 and 16.

Earlier, Herschelle Gibbs had criticised the BCCI for making Kashmir Premier League a political issue and mixing politics into sports. Gibbs said he was ‘threatened’ by BCCI to not take part in the league. It has already approached other cricket boards to not send their players to play in the KPL. As per reports, he has been barred from any cricket-related activities in India.

According to a report of the Indian Express, BCCI has clearly informed all the boards that participants of the controversial league will lead to end their commercial tie-ups with the BCCI. Also, they will be not be allowed to participate in any cricket-related activities in India. Meanwhile, a BCCI official said that the bold decision has been taken while keeping national interest in mind.

Earlier, former England pacer Mony Panesar had pulled out from the controversial KPL saying that he does not want to be a part of the disputes between the two countries. He further said that he wants to be a part of the Indian sports media as well for which he has taken the decision.

Muzaffarabad cricket stadium in PoK will host the matches of the league with a total of six teams participating in the tournament. Earlier, the BCCI had requested the BCCI to not recognise the tournament.
