Former Pakistan cricketer Salman Butt has pointed out that Shubman Gill has struggled to score big runs for India. He believes that the youngster is not doing full justice to his talent. Shubman Gill played well against West Indies in both the ODIs so far at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad. He slammed 64 runs in the first ODI and followed it up with 43 runs in the second.

In a video on his Youtube Channel, former Pakistan cricketer Salman Butt expressed that Gill has the potential to play impactful innings, but needs to convert his starts into big scores. He added that the Indian cricketer threw his wicket away in the second ODI against West Indies. Gill was caught and bowled by Kyle Mayers in the innings.

“Shubman Gill played well, but once again threw his wicket after being set. He’s been doing that repeatedly now. While he does play very well, I think he needs to carry on and score big because he has a lot of talent,” said Salman Butt.

Salman Butt further expressed that though Suryakumar Yadav could not do much in the first two games, his form is not up for debate. Suryakumar has been dismissed for 13 and 9 runs so far in the series. Salman Butt said,

“Suryakumar Yadav has done well in India’s last two series. The talk regarding his form is only amongst the fans. These things start when a player scores big in a game and fails in the next couple of matches.”

India has a solid bench strength: Salman Butt

Former Pakistan cricketer Salman Butt lauded India’s bench strength. He expressed that the team is in a developmental phase, with a lot of talent coming through the ranks. The former cricketer credited the Indian management for the emergence of youngsters. He stated,

“India has a solid bench strength. They are in a developmental phase and a lot of their pool of players is continuously increasing. We can’t see much difference in the team even when several big names are absent. This is because the management is providing consistent opportunities and the players have been responding well. The communication has become very clear.”
