Former South African batter Hashim Amla revealed that India’s premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah was the toughest bowler he faced during his IPL career. The 42-year-old represented Punjab Kings (PBKS) in 16 matches across the 2016 and 2017 seasons.
During his stint, Amla amassed 577 runs in 16 innings at an impressive average of 44.38 and a strike rate of 141.76, registering three half-centuries and two centuries. Speaking on a YouTube podcast hosted by Shubhankar Mishra, released on Saturday, November 8, Amla was asked which bowler had challenged him the most in the IPL. He replied:
“Obviously Bumrah. I mean, he’s an amazing bowler, and you see how fantastic he’s been for India. Yeah, I think Bumrah is definitely the best bowler and somebody who challenged me the most. I’d say he’s the most skillful, and as an all-format bowler, he’s just incredible. To just watch him bowl in itself is beautiful.”
Jasprit Bumrah has featured in 145 IPL matches, taking 183 wickets at an impressive average of 22.02, with a strike rate of 18.2 and an economy rate of 7.24. His tally also includes two five-wicket hauls.

In the same interview, former cricketer Hashim Amla was asked which franchise he would choose if given another opportunity to play in the IPL, to which the 42-year-old replied:
“It’s difficult to say. I mean, they all, it’s all a privilege to play in the IPL. I’d say MI (Mumbai Indians). Well, I suppose now that I’ve had some experience working with MI as a coach in the South African League, you see what a well-run unit it is. Fantastic organization. The logistics and the planning are great. And also probably Chennai. I mean, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are a fantastic franchise, and it’s no surprise that they are the two most successful IPL teams.”
