“His Hunger Makes Him Different From The Other Players” – Harbhajan Singh Praises Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill‘s exceptional hunger for success distinguishes him from other players of his generation, according to Harbhajan Singh.

Gill’s impressive performances across various formats have positioned him as a probable opening partner for Rohit Sharma in the upcoming ODI World Cup to be held in India.

Harbhajan Singh, during an interview with News24 Sports, discussed what sets Gill apart from other young players, emphasizing his passion and belief in his abilities.

Harbhajan acknowledged the significant contribution of Gill’s father in shaping his career and expressed the hope that Gill’s dedication would lead to a long and successful tenure with the Indian cricket team.

He believed that only by playing for India for 15-20 years could Gill repay the hard work and sacrifices his father had made. Harbhajan described Gill as an outstanding player with a remarkable mindset, making it a joy to watch him bat.

Born in Fazilka, a town in Punjab with limited cricketing facilities, Gill’s father served as his coach during his formative years.

Recognizing his son’s potential, Gill’s father decided to relocate the family to Mohali, providing him with access to top-notch facilities at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium.

Harbhajan Singh expressed his desire to see Gill represent India for many years to come and even lead the team someday, bringing satisfaction not only to his father but also to Punjab, their home state.

Shubman Gill achieved the second-highest run-getter in an IPL season earlier this year

Gill has showcased his talent in limited-overs cricket, accumulating 1311 runs at an impressive average of 65.55 in 24 ODIs, and 202 runs in six T20Is at an average of 40.40.

However, his Test cricket performance has been relatively modest, with 927 runs at an average of 31.96 in 17 matches.

Despite being earmarked for a leadership role by the Kolkata Knight Riders, Gill was not retained by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2022 auction.

Nevertheless, he has excelled for the Gujarat Titans in the last two seasons of the IPL, although he has not yet been appointed as a formal captain, with Hardik Pandya leading the side and Rashid Khan serving as the vice-captain.

In conclusion, Harbhajan Singh’s admiration for Shubman Gill stems from his unmatched hunger for success.

Gill’s remarkable performances across formats have cemented his place in the Indian cricket team.

Harbhajan believes that Gill’s dedication, combined with his outstanding skills, will enable him to have a long and prosperous career representing India.
