Venkatesh Iyer, who came to the limelight after his IPL 2021 performance with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), has again made headlines after his statement. After his brilliant performance with the bat and ball in the Indian Premier League, he stunned the cricketing world.

After his extraordinary performance, he recently got his maiden India to call up for the New Zealand T20 series, as a pure all-rounder. In a recent chat, he opened up about his idol in the game and picked England’s ace all-rounder Ben Stokes as one. He said Ben Stokes is a match-winner and he wishes to be like him by contributing to India across all formats.

“What Ben Stokes does for England or any other team he plays for, that is quite inspiring. He is a match-winner in every format. He contributes in all three departments equally and he’s such a big asset for the team,” said Iyer to Sports Yaari.

“Watching him play I feel like this is something that I really want to become. Contribute in every format and in every position, take wickets with the ball, and become a safe slip fielder like Stokes. Which team wouldn’t want a player like Stokes. I am inspired by Ben Stokes,” he added.

Venkatesh Iyer scored 370 runs in the second phase of IPL 2021

Talking about Venkatesh Iyer’s performance in the IPL, he scored up 370 runs in 10 games he played for KKR in IPL 2021 averaging 41.11 and striking at 128.47. Moreover, a genuine fast bowling all-rounder has always been India’s search and it is being felt more after Hardik Pandya’s poor form lately.

We’ll have to wait and see if Venkatesh Iyer can have his impact in the Blue jersey for team India under the New captain Rohit Sharma, and newly appointed head coach Rahul Dravid.
