Before the arrival of the Corona Virus in the country, one of the major questions in the world cricket was all about the future of MS Dhoni in International Cricket. A lot of analysts felt that his performance in IPL would give a clear idea regarding his presence for the T20 World Cup. But, unfortunately, it wasn’t the same, as COVID-19 suspended IPL. Speaking of the same, Ashish Nehra feels MS Dhoni will not play for India again.
MS Dhoni last played for India in the semi-final of the 2019 World Cup after which he took a sabbatical from competitive cricket. He had joined the Chennai Super Kings camp on March 2nd before it was cancelled on March 14th due to the global crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
MS Dhoni can still spring a surprise – Ashish Nehra
He was set to end his exile from professional cricket in IPL 2020. But with the league being postponed, neither his fellow cricketers nor the fans know when the former India captain will return to action.
While few think that Dhoni will return to play international cricket after the ongoing situation improves, others aren’t quite confident of Dhoni making his India comeback now.
Ashish Nehra, who played under Dhoni at India and Chennai Super Kings has said he doesn’t think Dhoni will play for India again. Although Nehra was optimistic of Dhoni springing another surprise.
“Look, if MS wants to play and is fit, he is still my No. 1 choice for the wicketkeeper’s slot. Knowing MS, I don’t think he will play again for India, but you never know he can still spring another surprise. Yes, that he has not announced his retirement is a different issue. But that’s his way of dealing with the situation,” he told The Telegraph.
MS Dhoni has led Chennai to three IPL titles, besides two Champions League titles in 2010 and 2014. He has so far played 190 IPL matches (including two editions for Rising Pune Supergiants) and has scored 4,432 runs, including 23 half-centuries.
The IPL 2020, which was scheduled to be played from March 29, has been suspended until further notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic which has already affected more than 23 thousand people and killed over 700 in India.
