Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has come with his opinions on the exclusive format of cricket The Hundred. The Hundred is a 100 ball cricket tournament started by England and Wales Cricket board. However, the 100 ball tournament has faced a lot of criticism from the fans and experts.
As many believe there is no good quality cricket in The Hundred. Ashwin has defended The hundred and said people have been criticizing the tournament without understanding its rules and regulations.
The Hundred is a 100 ball tournament in which the 6-balls in over format has been abolished. Also In this format, the change in end occurs after every 10 balls. Notably, bowlers have been given the privilege to deliver 10 consecutive deliveries in a match. However, a ball can either choose to ball 10 consecutive balls or 5 ball bursts.
Adding to it The maximum number of deliveries allowed to be bowled by a bowler is 20. The first edition of The Hundred commenced on July 21 with a women’s game between Oval Invincibles and Manchester Originals.
Meanwhile, talking in defense of The Hundred, Ravichandran Ashwin on his YouTube channel asserted:
“Those who did not understand this format commented vaguely about frequent changes in rules and formats. To many, innovation is not encouraged and is often misunderstood. When someone films a movie, we should watch it in the theatre and then criticize it. Making irrelevant comments even before going to the theatre does not work. We should appreciate the attempt and give credit to it.”

Ravichandran Ashwin further added that he watched the inaugural match of The Hundred and was impressed with the performance of women cricketers. He elaborated
“I watched a women’s game between Oval Invincibles and Manchester Originals. Though names were different, the game was outstanding, and women’s cricket is here to stay. I’d be glad if women’s IPL is all set to happen.”
“Hundred format has had an exciting start, and let’s see how it goes. Many believe this format can affect the performances of players. But I have found The Hundred enjoyable, and it can be called a sporting festival season. After tough times, experiencing live sports in cricket is something great,” Ashwin added about The Hundred.
