The youngster from Delhi Nitish Rana has established himself as one of the promising talents in the country. In the last few years in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Rana has taken giant strides to be in the good books of selectors. Recently, the left-handed batsman narrated an emotional story about one of his idol, Sourav Ganguly.

Being a left-hander himself, it is quite obvious that Nitish Rana had idolised Sourav Ganguly while growing up. Speaking to a Cricbuzz show ‘The Spicy Pitch’, Rana narrated a story of times when he used to lock his door and cry whenever Ganguly got out. The cricketer from Delhi also revealed that his family had different favourites altogether.

“We used to have a fight in our family. My brother was a Rahul Dravid fan, I was a Sourav Ganguly fan and my father adored Sachin Tendulkar. My father would tell me something every time Ganguly used to get out. I would run to my room and lock it and then cry and get angry,” Nitish Rana said.

Meanwhile, Nitish Rana made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians in 2017 but got more opportunities in 2017. He shifted his base to Kolkata in 2018 where he has been a vital cog in the middle-order. The youngster admitted that he never thought that he can bag an IPL contract leave alone getting fame and be in the reckoning for national selection.

“I never thought that I can be a part of IPL. For 4 or 5 seasons I used to got to Feroz Shah Kotla stadium to watch matches because I liked Akshay Kumar and he was with Delhi Daredevils back then. I used to like AB de Villiers and even Gautam Gambhir was in Delhi then. Virender Sehwag was also there. I used to think if one hasn’t seen them play, then they have seen nothing,” Rana added.
