Ishant Sharma is at present the mainstay of India’s bowling attack in Test match cricket. The fast bowler has raised his game in the last few years and helped India win several matches in whites. Meanwhile, Ishant during the early stages of his career was part of the Indian side in all formats.

Unfortunately, due to his inconsistent bowling in the death overs in ODI and T20I, costed him a place in the squad. However, Ishant still has ambitions of representing India in an ODI World Cup.

The speedster admitted that he would love to play the pinnacle tournament and be part of a world cup winning Indian team. Although the chances look bleak considering the current set-up, in three years time, Ishant Sharma can steam in the blues when the big teams come down to India for the global event.

“I would love to play in the World Cup. Actually, I want to be part of a World Cup-winning team, as it will be a different feeling altogether. We are playing World Test championship which is equivalent to a World Cup in Test cricket, but you realise that not a lot of people follow it, while an ODI World Cup is widely followed,” Ishant told Deep Dasgupta in a videocast hosted by ESPNcricinfo.

The 32-year-old has so far represented India in 80 ODIs in which he has amassed 115 wickets. Ishant was part of the 2013 Champions Trophy-winning team in England were he played a pivotal role in the final. Also, the fast bowler was all praise for his former captain MS Dhoni and added that he always backed him in his career.

“MS Dhoni always backed me. Even after my first 50-60 Tests, he never said we’ll look for someone to replace you. To tell you the truth, even after playing 97 Test, I still don’t understand things like average and strike rate! I’ve never bothered about these things. If I’m not able to understand them, why should I rely on them? It’s just a number after all”, Ishant said.

The tall pacer has played 97 Tests and bagged 297 wickets at an average of 32.39. Meanwhile, Ishant will be next seen in action during IPL 2020 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He will be representing the Delhi Capitals in the upcoming IPL which will take place between September 19- November 10.
