Shivam Dube explained why he travelled by train after the T20 World Cup 2026 final. Team India defeated New Zealand by 96 runs to win the trophy. After the final in Ahmedabad, all flights were fully booked, and he didn’t want to wait to go home.
He tried to get flight tickets for himself and his family, but since that didn’t work out, he chose to take an early morning train from Ahmedabad to Mumbai as it was faster.
He travelled like a regular passenger with his wife and tried not to be recognised by wearing a mask, cap, and full-sleeve T-shirt.Dube said he chose the train because he was feeling anxious and wanted to reach home quickly to meet his father, whom he credits for his success.
“Mereko bohot zyada anxiety ho rahi thi ki mai mere dad aur bacche ko milu. Aapko shayad woh story pata chali hogi train wali. Yahi reason tha ghar jaldi aana ka. Mera jo life hai, mai upar wale ke baad agar kisi ko thankyou bolta hu toh woh mere dad hain sabse pehle. Unhone jo kiya hai mere liye, woh bohot important hai. Isiliye mai aya, pehle bacche se mila, dad ko medal pehnaya. Tab ek alag feeling aya muhje,” he said.
(I was feeling a lot of anxiety wanting to meet my dad and my kid. You would have heard about the train story. This was the reason to get home soon. In my life, if I thank anyone after god, it is my dad. What he has done for me is very important. That is why I came, met my kid first, and presented the medal to my dad. Then I got a very different feeling.)
