“I Was Quite Desperate To Get Into The Indian 2011 World Cup Team” – Rohit Sharma

India’s opening batsman Rohit Sharma revealed that he was very desperate to be a part of the Indian team for the 2011 World Cup. Rohit had a string of low scores in South Africa just before the world cup and hence was left out of the squad.

In a conversation with Dinesh Karthik on Sky Sports Cricket, Rohit Sharma spoke about his exclusion from India’s 2011 world cup squad.

“I was quite desperate to get into the team and do something for the team at that point. I know you will be playing in front of your home crowd, and the sort of team we had, we had the best chance of winning the world cup. So, I wanted to be part of that world cup. If I get an opportunity try and make a difference. That is what I was thinking,” said Rohit Sharma.

The swashbuckling opener also stated that he only had himself to blame for the snub. He added that it changed him as a player completely. Rohit Sharma said,

“Somewhere down the line, I blame myself. I didn’t have a great run, before the world cup. I think that setback was needed to improve myself to understand my game better. Everyone wants to be a part of the world cup but in a way, it did good for me.”

“I came back as a different person altogether, I started learning more about my batting, trying to understand about my career, what I need to do from here on now. Those kinds of things actually helped me a lot. I sort of changed everything, I changed my mindset firstly and then a little bit of the technical aspect of my game,” he concluded.
