Rajasthan Royals (RR) have reached the final of the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). This is for the first time since 2008 that Rajasthan have made it to an IPL final. The Royals won the inaugural season of the cash-rich league under the leadership of Shane Warne.

Yusuf Pathan played a big role in the success of Rajasthan Royals in the winning campaign in IPL 2008. He was the player of the match in the final clash. Yusuf, who had the capability to turn matches with both bat and ball, talked about how Shane Warne played a big role in the success of the Rajasthan franchise.

Yusuf revealed an interesting incident involving Shane Warne when he was captain of Rajasthan in IPL 2008. The hard-hitting all-rounder revealed that once he was given strict punishment by Shane Warne for missing a pool session due to a misunderstanding. Yusuf Pathan was given the punishment of reaching the hotel by walking.

Speaking to Crictracker, Pathan said “I do not recall him punishing us for any practice session, but we missed a pool session due to some lack of communication. As soon as were about to reach the hotel, I along with several other cricketers from the international arena including Jadeja were told to reach the hotel by walking as a punishment,”

Yusuf also talked about his relationship with Shane Warne. He said that Shane gave him a lot of confidence. The former Baroda cricketer also explained how Warne studied his game and gave him a proper role in the team.

Yusuf Pathan revealed that Shane Warne trusted him in the big games in the semifinal and finals. The former Indian cricketer was in awe of his leadership skills of Warne.

Yusuf Pathan said “I remember he (Warne) used to say that I am his man who can turn the match or win the match for our team. Before coming to the IPL, Warne studied my game and gave me the freedom to play as I wanted. He showed confidence in me right from the first game and whenever there was an important match including semi-finals and finals, he used to boost my confidence. Warne will always have a special place in my heart.”
