Former Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain David Warner has revealed that he has likely played his final game for the Orange Army. Incidentally, Warner, who led the franchise to the title in 2016, had a disastrous IPL 2021 campaign.

He was first stripped of captaincy midway through the competition and later was dropped off from the playing XI owing to low scores. As the buzz starts from the upcoming edition, David Warner has confirmed that he will put his name in the auction.

“I will put my name in the auction,” he confirmed to the SEN radio station. “By the signs of the recent IPL, I won’t be retained by the Sunrisers, so I’m looking forward to a fresh start,” he added.

David Warner finishes his SRH career with most runs for them – he scored 4014 runs at 49.55. His tally includes 40 half-centuries and 2 centuries. Sunrisers Hyderabad won 35 out of 69 matches under his leadership.

David Warner said being left out of the squad for the final six games of the UAE leg of IPL 2021 was a “tough pill to swallow.” He said he is still to get an explanation from Sunrisers Hyderabad for dropping him from the team.

“It was a tough pill to swallow. I kind of laughed at the reasoning, that two guys were hitting the ball out of the middle a little bit better than I was. Given tha’ when you’re playing th’ game you’re playing the scenario…,” he said.

“Obviously, there are a lot of moving parts around there. What you have to do as a professional athlete is take it on the chin do everything you can for the team. “Not being able to go there, run drinks, and be around was when it sort of hit home that it could be personal, and I’m still yet to get those answers,” he concluded.

With two new franchises in the scene now, a couple of franchises would be interested to have David Warner under their roof for IPL 2022.
