With most of the exciting series getting cancelled in the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, the fans are gearing up for India’s tour of Australia later this year. While dark clouds still loom large over the future of the series, the fans are extremely hopeful. Speaking on the same lines, former Aussie skipper Ian Chappell picked Kuldeep Yadav as Australia’s biggest challenge during that tour.

India scripted history when they toured down under in 2018-19. They registered their first-ever Test series win beating the host 2-1. Taking that into consideration, the upcoming series has all the recipes to excite the fans. The host, who will have Steve Smith and David Warner this time in the side, will be desperate to give it back to India.

Kuldeep Yadav will be the biggest challenge: Ian Chappell

Meanwhile, for that to happen, Australia will have to play out of their skins. And Ian Chappell feels wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav will be the biggest challenge when Australia face India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy later this year.

“Kuldeep Yadav’s wrist-spin is the biggest wicket-taking threat on Australian pitches. The decision will call for brave selections,” Chappell wrote in his column for ESPNcricinfo.

Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav was also a part of Team India when they registered history. He played the fourth Test of the series at the Sydney Cricket Ground. He had picked up a five-wicket haul giving away 99 runs in 31.5 overs in Australia’s first inning to bowl them out for 300.

However, Ian Chappell understands that it will be difficult for Virat Kohli & Co to choose from the pool of spinners they have. They already have the experience of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in the mix who have done exceedingly well in the last few years.

“Choosing a spinner will prove a major headache for the Indian selectors. R Ashwin has a great overall record, but not so much in Australia. Ravindra Jadeja’s all-round talents and improved bowling form make him a legitimate challenger,” Chappell added.
