Veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has responded to former Australian cricketer Ian Healy’s quotes about the Border Gavaskar Trophy. The much-awaited series is all set to begin on February 9 at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. Healy had expressed earlier, that if India produces fair wickets, Australia will win the series.
Team India has had a good winning run against Australia in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. They have won the series thrice consecutively, including two away series wins. Former Australian cricketer Ian Healy while speaking on SENQ said, that the wickets should be good for batters initially, with spinners getting help later on. This will suit Australia in the series. He stated,
“I think if they produce fair Indian wickets, that are good batting wickets, to start with, (that) probably spin and spin pretty consistently but spin a long way, late in the match we (Australia) win.”
Reacting to Ian Healy’s statement, Ravichandran Ashwin expressed, in a video on his Youtube channel,
“Anyway, an Australian broadcaster and former player Ian Healy, has given a few gems before the BGT. He has given a few statements that say Indians will make sure Australians feel uncomfortable in India – “I don’t believe they will give us wickets that will look even slightly closer to what we will actually get during a game.”
Banter will keep coming from the Australian camp: Ravichandran Ashwin
Team India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin expressed that Ian Healy’s statement has set the spark for the Border Gavaskar Trophy. He added that banter will further continue from the Australian camp. In his Youtube video, Ravichandran Ashwin expressed,
“So he has said that Australia’s approach is only correct. The support staff might have given their opinion, but Ian Healy’s quote has set a spark with this take. It’s the Border-Gavaskar Trophy guys. So we need this spark, right? Besides, banter will keep coming from the Australian camp for sure. We saw what Steve Smith and Usman Khawaja had to say. Even Marnus Labuschagne and Matt Renshaw have said some controversial things. Renshaw said that you need to analyze a few things in India like who is taking the new ball and stuff.”
