ICC Addresses Terror Threat To India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup 2024 Match

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has addressed concerns regarding potential threats to the India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup match scheduled for June 9 at New York’s Eisenhower Park stadium. Security measures will be heightened following reports of threats to the match, according to a report by ESPNCricinfo.

The New York governor’s office has stated that they are monitoring the situation and, based on current intelligence, “there is no credible public safety threat at this time.” Eisenhower Park Stadium, situated 25 miles east of Manhattan, is set to host eight ICC T20 World Cup matches between June 3 and 12, including the highly anticipated match between the two Asian cricket rivals.

Governor Kathy Hochul emphasized her collaboration with law enforcement to ensure the smooth running of these games. She remarked, “I have also directed the New York State Police to engage in elevated security measures, including an increased law enforcement presence, advanced surveillance, and thorough screening processes.”

Hochul underscored that “public safety is my top priority and we are committed to ensuring the Cricket World Cup is a safe, enjoyable experience.” Authorities have not found corroborative evidence to substantiate the reported threat.

Nevertheless, the ICC has assured that security will be “robust” throughout the tournament at all venues. An ICC spokesperson stated, “The safety and security of everyone at the event is our number one priority and we have a comprehensive and robust security plan in place.”

Enhanced Security Measures in Place for Upcoming India-Pakistan Match at World Cup

“We work closely with authorities in our host countries and continually monitor and evaluate the global landscape to ensure appropriate plans are in place to mitigate any risks identified to our event.”

With this context, the upcoming match between India and Pakistan is anticipated to proceed under stringent security protocols, aimed at safeguarding players, officials, and spectators. The governor’s proactive measures, including increased police presence and advanced surveillance, are part of broader efforts to maintain a secure environment for all World Cup participants and attendees.
