ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: A total Of 11,000 Security Personnel Will Be Assigned For The India-Pakistan Showdown

India and Pakistan are set to compete on October 14 at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. The Ahmedabad Commissioner of Police, G S Malik, has implemented a comprehensive security plan at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad in response to emerging threats for the ODI World Cup match between India and Pakistan.

The world’s most extensive cricket stadium will be the venue for this intense encounter between the rival teams on October 14. More than 11,000 security personnel from various agencies, such as the Gujarat Police, NSG, RAF, and home guards, will be deployed in both Ahmedabad and at the stadium.

It’s important to note that there hasn’t been any communal violence in Ahmedabad during cricket matches held in the city over the past two decades. Nevertheless, as a precautionary step, security forces will be positioned at sensitive locations.

On October 9, the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Bhupendra Patel, convened a gathering in Gandhinagar that included Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi, the state DGP Vikas Sahay, G S Malik, and senior police officials.

In a press briefing held after the meeting, Malik mentioned that the chief minister reviewed the security preparations and instructed the police to implement all essential measures to guarantee the smooth execution of the event.

“Along with more than 7,000 police personnel, we will deploy nearly 4,000 home guards to secure the stadium and to maintain law and order in communally sensitive areas of the city during the match.”

“In addition to these personnel, we will deploy three ‘hit teams’ and one anti-drone team of the NSG. Nine teams of our bomb detection and disposal squad will also be utilised,” Malik said.

During the game, four high-ranking IPS officers, which includes the inspector general and deputy inspector general, along with 21 deputy commissioner of police (DCP) level officers, will supervise and manage the security team.

“Apart from 13 companies of the state reserve police (SRP), we will deploy three companies of Rapid Action Force as part of our security setup. The RAF will keep a watch on communally sensitive areas of the city.”

”To help people in case of a stampede, we have already prepared an evacuation plan and rehearsals are also going on at the stadium,” Malik added.

Mumbai Police has received a threat of an explosive device

Reports indicate that Mumbai Police received an email from an anonymous sender, warning of harm to the Prime Minister and potential destruction of the Ahmedabad stadium.

The sender additionally demanded INR 500 crore and the release of notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. However, G S Malik emphasized that these threats have been thoroughly evaluated, and the city police are fully ready to handle any situation.

“We have assessed such threats and made our deployment plan accordingly. Moreover, such an elaborate security arrangement is necessary when more than one lakh spectators are going to come to watch the match. We also took into account the fact that it will be a sensitive match and it can create communal disturbance,” Malik further said.
