India vs New Zealand

The most anticipated match between India and New Zealand is set to take place at HPCA Stadium, Dharamshala on 22 October 2023. Both teams are on a roll winning 4 matches in succession and hoping for a closely fought contest.

Indian team would be looking to end their 20-year-old drought as they defeated New Zealand in the 2003 World Cup. Since then, Kiwis registered victory over Team India in ICC events.

It promises to be an exciting contest between two top-quality teams in the tournament and will create pressure on each other.

Here we look at the 5 Players To Watch Out For

  1. Shubman Gill

The dashing right-handed batter Shubman Gill returned to form with a well-made half-century against Bangladesh. He looked in decent touch putting the bad deliveries away for boundaries keeping pressure on the opponent bowlers.

His role is to keep the threat away of New Zealand pace bowlers and lay a strong foundation for a decent total along with Rohit Sharma. He has a brilliant record against the Kiwis team in the ODI format with 484 runs from 8 matches including the best score of 208 at Hyderabad in 2023. During his 484 runs, Gill has smashed 2 centuries and 2 half-centuries to his name.

Gill will look to play a key role in the first 10 overs and put pressure on the Kiwi bowling lineup which would allow the middle order to post or chase down the target.

  1. Devon Conway

The stylish left-handed batter Devon Conway got a start against Afghanistan but was not able to convert it into a big score. He has been the backbone for the New Zealand side in providing a decent start.

Conway would be looking for a good start against the top-quality bowling of India comprising Siraj, Shami, and Bumrah. His ODI record with Team India in the ODI format has been decent enough with 217 runs from 6 matches (5 innings) including the best score of 138.

His role is giving an attacking start along with Will Young who will lay a strong foundation for a decent total which would put pressure on Indian batting.

  1. KL Rahul

KL Rahul had a decent outing in the previous match remaining not out along with Virat Kohli. He would look to showcase his batting skills if Team India is in trouble, or the batters give a good start.

Coming at number 5, he has all the ingredients to play according to the situation. He played a total of 4 ODI matches with 205 runs including the best score of 112. KL Rahul has played some valuable knocks and will be looking to do the same in tomorrow’s match.

His role would be to provide the stability and keep the pressure on the New Zealand bowling that would help them post a decent total.

  1. Trent Boult

Trent Boult has been the nemesis of the Indian batting order. He proves to be a tough bowler to face in the initial 10 overs. With conditions likely to help the seam bowlers, he would look for early breakthroughs that would dent the Indian batting.

He has created damage against India in the ODI format with 24 wickets from 13 matches at an economy of 4.70 runs per over with best figures of 5 for 21. Boult would look for early wickets in the first 10 overs that would put enough pressure on the Indian middle order.

Boult is a threat to the Indian batters and will play a key role for New Zealand with his ability to trouble as there will be some swing.

  1. Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah continued his superb form in the previous match against Bangladesh. He bowled with great control not allowing the batters to score runs easily. His bowling in the death overs looked threatening and did not allow Bangladesh batters to hit big shots.

He has done well against NZ in ODI format with 13 wickets from 11 matches at an economy of 4.71 runs per over. Bumrah will look to provide early breakthroughs in the first 10 overs that would put enough pressure on the New Zealand batting lineup.

The Indian bowlers has done well so far and Bumrah would be key to stopping New Zealand from winning the match.
