Virat Kohli, the star batsman for Team India, may rank among the top three run scorers at the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, according to legendary Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan.

On Tuesday, June 27, Muralitharan attended the announcement of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 schedule at the St. Regis Hotel in Mumbai. The former cricket player was asked to predict the top three scorers of the game while it was going on.

Virat Kohli, Joe Root, and Babar Azam, respectively, from Pakistan, England, and England, will score the most runs at the major competition, the 51-year-old responded.

When asked if Rohit Sharma’s record of five centuries in one ODI World Cup edition would be broken, he responded that it wouldn’t be a simple task given that players are only anticipated to play around 10 games.

He replied: “It will be very tough. You get only 9 to 10 or 11 matches. So it’s very hard to break.”

Sharma had an outstanding World Cup, it is important to note. In a single ODI World Cup, the opener became the first batter to score five centuries. He was the leading run-scorer in the edition with 648 runs from nine games.

According to Muttiah Muralitharan, spinners will win the World Cup

Muttiah Muralitharan added during the event that spin bowlers would likely have a significant impact at the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2023. Adil Rashid and Rashid Khan, leg spinners, were his choices for the players who would take the most wickets, in his opinion.

According to Muralitharan, India’s Ravindra Jadeja can also be at the top of the list if he plays in all the games.

Muralitharan continued: “Spinners will rule the World Cup. Rashid Khan and Adil Rashid are my top choices for wicket-takers. Ravindra Jadeja will also rank highly if he participates in all of the games.”

From October 5 to November 19, India will host the 13th edition of the ODI World Cup. The tournament will begin with England facing off against New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
