The Pakistan Men’s cricket team kicked off their ICC ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign against the Netherlands on Friday, October 6 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. They achieved a unique record in International cricket as they took the field against the Netherlands.

Pakistan became the first team to play two different formats on the same day in International cricket. The senior men’s team took on the Netherlands in the ICC ODI Cricket World Cup 2023. Meanwhile, a second-string Pakistan team played against Afghanistan in the semi-final of the Asian Games on the same day at the Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field in Hangzhou. It was a T20I match at the Asian Games.

Babar Azam led the Pakistan team in the ICC ODI Cricket World Cup 2023, while the Asian Games squad was led by Qasim Akram. Earlier there have been instances of teams playing two matches on the same day, however, this is the first instance of a team playing two different formats on the same day in International cricket.

Pakistan Hopes for Bronze in Asian Games

The Pakistan men’s cricket team, led by Qasim Akram, will take on Bangladesh in the Bronze Medal match of the Asian Games on Saturday, October 7 at the Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field, Hangzhou. They lost to Afghanistan in the semi-final by four wickets at the same venue.

Batting first, Pakistan was bowled out for 115 runs in 18 overs. Fareed Ahmed took a three-wicket haul, while Qais Ahmed and Zahir Khan took two wickets each. In response, Afghanistan suffered a few early blows, however, crucial partnerships by the middle order saw them through. Noor Ali Zadran top scored with 39 runs.

Afghanistan will play the Gold Medal match against India on Saturday, October 7 at the Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field, Hangzhou after the third-place match between Pakistan and Bangladesh.
