South African batters unleashed a relentless run-feast in an extraordinary batting performance against Sri Lanka in ICC ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 on Saturday, October 7 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The spectacular batting display has established South Africa’sĀ formidable presence in the tournament. They broke several records during the scoring spree, smashing the Sri Lankan bowlers all over the park.
Batting first, South Africa put on 428 runs on the board, on the back of centuries from Quinton de Kock, Aiden Markram and Rassie van der Dussen. Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen put on an outstanding partnership for the second-wicket stand, scoring 204 runs. Quinton de Kock scored 100 runs off 84 deliveries while van der Dussen smashed a 110-ball 108. Meanwhile, Aiden Markram went all guns blazing smashing fourteen boundaries and three sixes during the knock. He scored 106 runs off 54 deliveries at a strike rate of 196.3. Several records were broken during the innings.

Highest team totals in ODI World Cup
South Africa’s 428 runs is now the highest team total in an ODI World Cup. They went past Australia’s total of 417 runs which they got against Afghanistan in 2015 at Perth. South Africa is again on number four with 413 runs against Ireland in 2015.
Most 400+ team totals in ODI World Cup
South Africa posted their third 400-plus total in ICC ODI World Cups. They earlier scored 400-plus runs against Ireland in 2015 when they scored 411 runs. In the same edition, they slammed 408 runs against West Indies in Sydney. India and Australia are the only other two teams who have scored 400-plus runs in an ODI World Cup match.

While South Africa posted their third ODI World Cup 400-plus total, this is their eighth overall 400-plus total in ODI cricket. They top the list of most 400-plus team totals in ODI cricket. India is second on the list scoring 400-plus total on six occasions.

South Africa posted its fourth-highest team total in ODI matches during the innings. Their best was against West Indies in 2015 when they scored 439 runs. They also scored 438/9 against Australia in 2006 and 438/4 against India in 2015.

Aiden Markam during his terrific knock against Sri Lanka broke the record for the fastest century in an ODI Cricket World Cup. He got to the three-figure mark in 49 deliveries. He broke Kevin OāBrian’s record, who got to his century off 50 balls against England in 2011 at Bangalore.
Most runs conceded by Sri Lanka bowler in ODI WC
Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana took a beating against South Africa during their historic run-feast at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. He earned an undesirable record, conceding 95 runs in the innings. This is the most runs conceded by a Sri Lankan bowler in an innings in the ODI World Cup. Ashantha de Mel held the record previously conceding 91 runs against West Indies in Karachi in 1987.
