ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: [WATCH]- Aiden Markram Dismisses David Warner After A Rapid Start

In the 2023 World Cup semi-final at Kolkata’s iconic Eden Gardens on Thursday (November 16), South Africa’s vice-captain Aiden Markram bowled a superb delivery to dismiss Australian opener David Warner.

In pursuit of 213, Australia had a scintillating beginning with David Warner hitting four sixes and a four, reaching 29 (18). Travis Head joined the onslaught, propelling Australia to 60 for no loss in a mere six overs, putting them firmly in control of the contest.

Aiden Markram, bowling as a part-time off- spinner, entered the attack in the seventh over. Remarkably, on his first delivery, he dismissed David Warner, providing South Africa with their initial breakthrough.

David Miller scores a brave 101, helping South Africa reach 213 in their first innings against Australia

South Africa batted first after winning the toss. Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood took two wickets each with the new ball, causing the ball to move sideways due to overcast conditions. This left South Africa struggling at 24/4 early in the game.

David Miller (101) and Heinrich Klaasen (47) formed a 95-run partnership to revive the innings. Despite their efforts, Australian bowlers consistently took wickets, preventing South Africa from finishing strongly.

Miller fought valiantly on one end, smashing a remarkable century to guide his team to a decent score of 213. Reflecting on his innings during the mid-innings break, he stated:

“Ultimately you want to win at the end of the day. Really glad to get a hundred here but only half the game is done. I thought we fought hard at the end there to get a decent score.”

“We knew it was going to be a bit slow and turn. But four down early in the powerplay, we were always on the back foot. I stuck at it with Klaasy and forged a partnership towards the end there with Gerald.”
