ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: [WATCH]- Charith Asalanka’s Spectacular Diving Catch Removes Logan Van Beek

During the 2023 World Cup match on Saturday at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, Charith Asalanka from Sri Lanka took a remarkable catch near the boundary rope.

This catch was vital as it removed Logan van Beek, who was in good form, having already scored a half-century. Van Beek was on 59 runs, and with just nine deliveries remaining in the innings, he aimed to finish strongly.

On the fourth delivery of the 49th over, bowled by Kasun Rajitha, Van Beek attempted a powerful shot. He connected with the ball nicely but couldn’t get it high enough. Charith Asalanka quickly shifted to his right near the boundary and made a spectacular diving catch to complete the dismissal.

The Netherlands scored 262 runs against Sri Lanka in the 2023 World Cup match

In the World Cup game against Sri Lanka, Netherlands captain Scott Edwards won the toss and chose to bat. Their top and middle-order struggled once again, reaching 91/6 in 21.2 overs.

However, Sybrand Engelbrecht (70) and Logan van Beek (59) partnered effectively, adding 130 runs for the seventh wicket and reviving the innings. Thanks to their impressive contributions, the Netherlands managed to reach a competitive total of 262.

During the halftime interval, Sybrand Engelbrecht shared his thoughts on his team’s batting performance, stating:

“Yeah, I am happy (on his knock). We have gotten a competitive total. A lot of credit goes to Logan (van Beek) – he batted beautifully. There is some turn on this pitch and it is tricky to bat on.”

“We decided to take it slightly deeper and that allowed us to take chances towards the end. We’ve got a lot of supporters from our people here and back home. We will have to bowl very well. I am happy with the total and we are up for the challenge”
