Australian all-rounder Travis Head took a blinder in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 against Team India on Sunday, November 19 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. His fielding effort sent Indian skipper Rohit Sharma back to the pavilion, lifting up the spirits of the Australian team in the match.

Rohit Sharma opened the innings along with Shubman Gill. He started off well and continued to take on the Australian bowlers even after Gill’s dismissal. He slammed Glenn Maxwell for a six and a boundary in consecutive deliveries in the tenth over of the Indian innings. However, Maxwell had the last laugh as he dismissed Rohit Sharma off the following delivery.

Glenn Maxwell bowled a flighted delivery which angled into Rohit Sharma, who stepped out to play a lofted shot towards wide mid-on. However, he sliced the ball, which went high up. Travis Head, who was at cover-point ran backwards and put in a full-stretched dive to pull off a stunner. He caught the ball just a few inches above the ground, leaving everyone in awe. Rohit Sharma had to walk back to the pavilion, playing a fine knock of 47 runs from 31 deliveries, with four boundaries and three sixes.

India and Australia stick to winning combination for World Cup Final

Australian skipper Pat Cummins won the toss and opted to bowl first. He chose to go ahead with the same team as the semi-final against South Africa. Meanwhile, there were several reports of India thinking of bringing in Ravichandran Ashwin for Mohammad Siraj. However, the Rohit Sharma-led team also went ahead with the winning combination. Speaking at the toss, the skipper said,

“The biggest occasion in the cricketing event. We have to stay nice and calm.”

“We need to play well and get the result. You got to make the right decisions on the field. That’s something we’ve done consistently in the last 10 games,” he further added.
