Shubman Gill becomes highest ranked batter in ODIs

Before the big Super 4 match of Asia Cup 2023 against Pakistan to be played on 10th September, there is some good news as Shubman Gill becomes the highest-ranked batter in the One-day international format. Gill struggled in the opening match against Pakistan at Palleke International Stadium in Kandy, scoring 10 off 31 deliveries.

He came with a superb unbeaten knock against Nepal at the same ground on 4th September that helped India beat the debutants by 10 wickets. The opener struggled against top-quality pace bowling of Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf.

Chasing a revised target of 145 runs in 23 overs, Gill looked in sensational touch hitting boundaries and singles at will. He remained not out 67 off 62 deliveries with 8 fours and 2 sixes at a strike rate of 108.06. Gill and Rohit ensured that India won the match by 10 wickets with 17 balls to spare. The opener has moved to his best rating points of 750.

Babar Azam occupies the top spot with a superb 151 runs in the opening match against Nepal at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore on 30th August 2023. South African batter Rassie Van der Dussen occupies the second spot and has a chance as they face Australia in the 5-match ODI series starting tomorrow.

Pakistan opener Imam UL Haq did not get an opportunity to bat against India in a rain-curtailed encounter. He failed to get going against Nepal where he was run out by a direct throw by Rohit Paudel.

Ireland’s Harry Tector and Australia’s powerhouse occupy the joint 6th spot in the batting rankings. Fakhar Zaman occupies the 7th  spot despite getting out cheaply against Nepal. Quinton de Kock occupies at 8th spot and would be eager to showcase his batting skills when South Africa takes on Australia in the 5-match ODI Series starting from tomorrow.

Steve Smith remains at the number 9th spot and would look to climb up when they will face South Africa in the 5-match ODI series. Virat Kohli contributed just 4 runs in the match against Pakistan and did not get a chance to bat ending the batting rankings at number 10.

India’s wicketkeeper bat Ishan Kishan scored a complied 82 against arch-rivals Pakistan with India being in trouble at 66 for 4 jumping to 24th place in the rankings.
