Former India cricketer Deep Dasgupta has expressed that the attitude of the Indian players in the last three matches of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 was the biggest positive for the team.
India began the world cup on a disastrous note, losing to Pakistan and New Zealand in consecutive matches. They made a comeback winning their remaining three matches comfortably. However, this effort wasn’t enough to secure a berth in the semi-finals of the tournament.
Deep Dasgupta highlighted the positives for India from the tournament. He pointed out the approach by openers and the aggressive bowling intent of Ravindra Jadeja in the tournament. Deep said as quoted by Sportskeeda:
“The attitude of the Indian players has got to be the silver lining for India. Like the intent by opening batsmen and Jadeja’s bowling. Jadeja was looking to pick wickets and not only just contain runs by bowling defensively. Important to keep this mindset going. Hopefully, they continue this brand of cricket even though the opponents were not the strongest teams.”
The quality of cricket has improved massively for the Indian team under Ravi Shastri: Deep Dasgupta
Deep Dasgupta also reflected on Ravi Shastri’s journey as the head coach of the Indian team. His tenure ended after India’s exit from the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Rahul Dravid has been appointed as the new head coach of the team.
Deep Dasgupta highlighted the success India achieved under Ravi Shastri and asserted that the quality of cricket improved massively for the team. He said:
“The win percentage under Ravi Shastri has been around 60%, there are hardly any teams that can say they have such a win percentage over the last 4-5 years. One of the talking points from this tenure is how he took this Indian team and how he has left it in a better state now. The quality of cricket has improved massively.”
