Australia beat Pakistan by five wickets to head into the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. However, one of the incidents during the game did not please former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir. He has hit out at David Warner for lack of sportsmanship to a Mohammad Hafeez delivery which came to him at two bounces and instead of leaving the ball, Warner hit it out for a six.

Though what Warner did is within the rulebooks of the game of cricket, it certainly is not within the spirit of the game. Gautam Gambhir has pointed out to the same thing through a tweet where he said:

What an absolutely pathetic display of spirit of the game by Warner!”. He even tagged Ravichandran Ashwin in his tweet as well.

Bowling the eighth over the Australian innings, Hafeez’s first delivery slipped out of his hand and reached to Warner in two bounces. Warner dispatched it over the deep mid-wicket fence for a maximum. Umpire Richard Kettleborough then signalled the delivery as no-ball because it had bounced twice. Before Warner shepherd the innings, the Aussies were reeling from 1 for 1 to 77 for 3 in the ninth over.

David Warner was dismissed for 49 and it was Marcus Stoinis and Matthew Wade’s unbeaten 81-run stand to take Australia over the line. Wade hit three back-to-back sixes in the 19th over after Hasan Ali dropped him in the third ball of the over.

Australia will now face New Zealand in the final who went through by beating England in the first semi-final. The Kiwis won the ICC World Test Championship earlier this year and are eyeing to win the T20 World Cup as well.
