ICC T20 World Cup 2021: “Its A Good Decision”-Kapil Dev On MS Dhoni As Team India Mentor

Former Indian skipper Kapil Dev has lauded BCCI’s decision to sign in MS Dhoni as the mentor of the Indian Cricket team for the T20 World Cup 2021. The squad was announced a couple of days ago with Secretary Jay Shah announcing Dhoni’s role with the side. India last won an ICC title with MS Dhoni as the captain back in 2013. His selection as the mentor will boost the side for the big tournament.

Meanwhile, Kapil Dev has shared his thoughts on MS Dhoni’s selection as the mentor of the team for the marquee tournament in the UAE.

“It is a good decision. I have always been of the opinion that once a cricketer retires he should come back to the setup only after three-four years but this seems like a special case with the World Cup around the corner. Ravi (Shastri) is also down with COVID so it looks a special case,” Kapil Dev was quoted as saying by India Today.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah had confirmed he spoke with Dhoni during his visit to Dubai and that the former captain agreed to be the Indian team’s mentor for the T20 World Cup.

“So as far as MS Dhoni is concerned, I spoke to him when I was in Dubai so he was okay with the decision and he agreed to be the team mentor for T20 World Cup only. I discussed this particular issue with my colleagues also, they are all on the same page,” said Shah during a virtual press conference.

India head coach Ravi Shastri also welcomed with Dhoni’s selection as the mentor of the Indian team. The captain with three ICC titles to his name will work closely with Shastri and the support staff and help India win their first ICC title since 2013.

“The team couldn’t have asked for anything better. The BCCI has thought this out extremely well and put the plans in place. Having MS Dhoni in the dressing-room and the dugout will be a huge shot in the arm for the boys. It’s a great move,” Shastri told TOI on Thursday.
