R Ashwin has been added to the Indian squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup which left many surprised as well as shocked. Notably, he has been out of the squad for quite a long time.
However, alongside him, Ravindra Jadeja too was out of the limited-overs set up but he had returned a few years back as well. “It has actually been 480 days because I played, so I will certainly constantly remember this,” said Jadeja while playing under alternate captain Rohit Sharma in UAE in 2018.
Notably, they had last featured in white-ball cricket way back in June 2017 and it took a long time for Ravichandran Ashwin to get back in the white-ball cricket once again. And, as per TOI, it is Rohit Sharma who has backed him.
The board, as well as selectors, had actually given a thought on Rohit Sharma’s point of view prior to the choice conference where he asked about the veteran spinner Ashwin, who has been in great form in the red-ball cricket as well. Even, captain Virat Kohli too supported when the concept was decided.
On the other hand, young spinner Washington Sundar has been ruled out due to injury whereas Ravichandran Ashwin has been in good form in the Indian Premier League also in the UAE where the global event will take place in October.
Meanwhile, the selectors also favoured young India and Mumbai Indians player Ishan Kishan over the experienced Shikhar Dhawan as well as Prithvi Shaw and Sanju Samson. Also, Rahul Chahar sealed the deal ahead of the experienced leg-spinners Yuzvendra Chahal, who was dropped alongside Kuldeep Yadav.
Ishan Kishan is one of the future stars who is capable of scoring very quickly as well as his wicketkeeping abilities are equally praiseworthy. It will be interesting to see how they will perform in the marquee event.
