Rahul Dravid will take over from Ravi Shastri as the next head coach of the Indian cricket team. The home series against New Zealand after the T20 World Cup will be his first assignment. Meanwhile, there are also reports that either of KL Rahul or Rohit Sharma will lead the team against the Kiwis.

KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma are the potential options for India’s next white-ball captain as per Rahul Dravid’s statements in his interview with the CAC. There are also reports that the BCCI is willing to pick one candidate for both the ODI and the T20I formats.

“Who do you see as the next Indian white-ball captain?” was one of the questions for Dravid. His first choice was Sharma followed by KL Rahul.”

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli is all set to step down as India’s T20I skipper post the T20 World Cup. There are also reports of him stepping down from OSI captaincy as well. Nothing is official about his ODI captaincy decision as of now.

The BCCI had a grand welcome for Rahul Dravid for the top role. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah wished him all the best for his new stint with the Indian team. Dravid travelled to Sri Lanka with the team earlier this year for a short series.

” The BCCI welcomes Rahul Dravid as the Head Coach of India’s senior men team. Rahul has had an illustrious playing career and is one of the greats of the game. He has also served Indian cricket as Head of National Cricket Academy (NCA) with distinction. Rahul’s effort at the NCA has nurtured several young cricketing talents who have gone on to represent the country at the international stage. I am hopeful that his new stint will take Indian cricket to new heights” said the BCCI President.

“It is an absolute honour to be appointed as the new Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team and I am really looking forward to this role. Under Mr Shastri, the team has done very well, and I hope to work with the team to take this forward. Having worked closely with most of the boys either at NCA, U19 and India A setup, I know they have the passion and desire to improve every day. There are some marquee multi-team events in the next two years, and I look forward to working with the players and the support staff to achieve our potential.” said Rahul Dravid after his appointment.
