ICC T20 World Cup 2021: “There Won’t Be Another Virat Kohli”-Virender Sehwag Looks Back At India Skipper’s T20 Journey

Virat Kohli played his last match as India’s T20I skipper against Namibia in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. India won the match by nine wickets as Kohli ended his captaincy tenure on a winning note. It also ended Ravi Shastri’s tenure as head coach and the famous Shastr-Kohli era of Indian cricket. Former Indian batsman Virender Sehwag looked back ar Kohli’s captaincy career and said that no one can question his place in the team.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Sehwag said that there will not be another Virat Kohli and his place in the Indian T20I side can never be a question to be asked.

Won’t Be Right To Question Virat Kohli’s Place In Indian T20I Side

“No matter how many youngsters come, there won’t be another Virat Kohli. With the kind of consistency he displays with the bat, even in this current side, it won’t be right to question his place in the T20 set-up. He will continue to play T20I for as long as he wants” Sehwag said.

Former Indian pacer Ashish Nehra also stood by Sehwag’s comments on Kohli. He said that no one else can provide the stability in the batting order better than Virat Kohli.

“No one will give you stability in the batting unit better than Virat Kohli. You can’t just load your batting unit with power-hitters, you need a combination of experience and youth.”

Virat Kohli ended his T20I captaincy career with 32 wins out of 50 games. He was the Player of the Tournament in the 2014 and 2016 editions of the World Cup. The Indian skipper now has 3227 runs in just 87 innings at an average of 52.05 and a strike rate of 137.91 with 29 50-plus scores.

With the T20 World Cup done, India now will take on New Zealand in a series at home starting from November 17. He was a bit emotional in the post-match presentation as he looked back to his journey as India’s T20I skipper.

“A big thank you to all those guys (Ravi Shastri and his support staff). They have done a great job over the years, creating such a wonderful environment for the players. People loved to get back to the atmosphere. They have done a really great job. That (his aggression) is never going to change. The day it does, I’ll stop playing cricket. Even before I became captain, I have always loved to contribute in some way or the other. Surya didn’t get much gametime in this World Cup, so I thought it will be a nice memory to take back” said Kohli.
