Indian head coach Ravi Shastri stepped down as the head coach after India bowed out of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Virat Kohli & Co failed to qualify for the semifinals after losing their first two games against Pakistan and New Zealand.

Shastri, who took over the reins in 2017 from Anil Kumble, took Indian cricket to unprecedented heights. His man-management skills were at the forefront to keep the cricketers together and didn’t let any negative force enter the dressing room.

He signs off with a win percentage of almost 64.5, winning 118 matches out of 183 games across all the formats. As Ravi Shastri parts off on a high, let us take a look at Indian crickets major achievements under Ravi Shastri.

1) India inflicted a whitewash on West Indies in a Test series in the Caribbean for the first time.

2) Under Ravi Shastri, India scripted history by becoming the first Asian team to beat Australia in a Test series in their own backyard.

3) India made it to the final of the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship under Ravi Shastri’s guidance. However, Virat Kohli & Co. lost the final by eight wickets as New Zealand were crowned champions.

4) India were the best team in the group stages of the 2019 ICC World Cup and had topped the points table to reach the semifinal of the competition. However, the Men in Blue faced a heartbreaking defeat against New Zealand in the semi-final to bow out of the tournament.

5) Ravi Shastri kept a relatively young side together in the absence of many first-choice players, as India defeated Australia at their home to clinch the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the second successive time.

6) Under Ravi Shastri’s watch, India won a T20I series in South Africa, New Zealand, England and Australia.

7) India took a 2-1 lead in the five-match series against England earlier this year during Ravi Shastri’s tenure before the rubber was suspended due to the COVID-19 outbreak in the Indian camp.

8) Under Ravi Shastri, the Indian team became a force to reckon with in Test cricket, holding on to the number one ranking in the world for 42 months from 2016 to 2020.

9) Ravi Shastri also oversaw a 3-0 whitewash of Sri Lanka in 2017, the first time they achieved such a feat.

10) India formed a potent pace bowling unit under Ravi Shastri and bowling coach Bharat Arun that shone in all conditions and against the best in the world.

Ravi Shastri will bow out as one of the best coaches India have ever witnessed. Former India captain Rahul Dravid, who has been appointed to replace Shastri, will have big shoes to fill in.
