Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra feels all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will not pick a lot of wickets for India at the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup. He reasoned that the conditions on offer are not favorable to Jadeja’s style of bowling. The mega-event is all set to take place in Australia, starting in October. India did not have a great outing in the previous edition and will be keen to change fortunes this time.
In a video on his Youtube channel, Aakash Chopra analyzed India’s spin-bowling options for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. He expressed that Ravindra Jadeja is a “package” as he contributes all-round including his fantastic fielding. However, Aakash added that Jadeja is unlikely to pick a lot of wickets for India at the T20 World Cup this year.
“Ravindra Jadeja, as good as he is, he will also bat and field, he is a package and is definitely seen playing in the XI, but he is not your wicket-taker. So don’t expect that he will suddenly start picking up a lot of wickets. The conditions are not going to be favorable to his bowling in any case,” said Aakash Chopra.
The mirror does not lie: Aakash Chopra
Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra further highlighted Ravindra Jadeja’s performance this year in T20Is and the Indian Premier League. In seven matches, the all-rounder picked four wickets this year for India. He also did not have a great IPL season with the Chennai Super Kings.
Aakash Chopra expressed that the Indian team and the fans should be prepared as Ravindra Jadeja is not a wicket-taking option at the T20 World Cup. He stated,
“If we see his numbers, he has played seven matches since the T20 World Cup, picked up just four wickets. The average is above 43 and the economy is also close to 8.5 – it’s not great. Ravindra Jadeja will definitely play, this both you and I know. But he will not give you too many wickets, be ready for that. The mirror does not lie.”
