ICC World Cup Qualifiers 2023: Sikandar Raza Smashes 102* off 54 As Zimbabwe Defeats Netherlands By 6 Wickets

On Tuesday, June 20, at the Harare Sports Club, Zimbabwe defeated the Netherlands by a margin of six wickets in match five of the ICC World Cup Qualifiers 2023.

In the Group A match, Zimbabwe romped home in 40.5 overs after setting a target of 316. Thanks to Sikandar Raza‘s 102* off 54 balls and Sean Williams’ 91 off 58.

Raza also took four wickets earlier in the innings while bowling.

With his 54-ball century, Raza beat Williams’ previous mark of 70 balls set a few days earlier for the fastest one-day hundred by a Zimbabwean batsman.

With six fours and eight sixes, Raza celebrated his hundred and Zimbabwe’s victory in grand fashion by whacking Logan van Beek for a maximum over wide long-off.

Craig Ervine, the captain of Zimbabwe, and Joylord Gumbie, the first wicket pair, added 80 runs for the first wicket to give the chase a thrilling start.

Williams and Raza put up 84 runs for the fourth wicket after the dismissals of Gumbie and Wessly Madhevere (both 10).

Williams was on pace to score another century but was nine short. As he mishandled a short ball from Bas de Leede and holed out to deep midwicket.

In his impressive knock, Williams hit 10 fours and two sixes. Ryan Burl (16*) and Raza led Zimbabwe past the finish line after he was expelled.

Earlier, Netherlands scored 315/6 after winning the toss and electing to bat first in the World Cup Qualifier 2023 match.

Nepal defeated the United States of America by six wickets in Game 6 of the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers 2023 at the Takashinga Sports Club in Harare.

Having won the toss, Nepal chose to bowl first, and they quickly dismissed the Americans for 207 in 49 overs.

In addition to Gulsan Jha’s 3/52 and Dipendra Singh’s 2/15, Karan KC took home 4/33.  USA’s batting performance was appalling, as they lost 4/18.

Shayan Jahangir, a keeper-batter, however, smashed an unbeaten 100 off 79 balls to push his team over the 200-run threshold.

Bhim Sharki anchored the innings with an unbeaten 77 off 114 balls. He led Nepal to victory in the World Cup Qualifiers 2023 match in just 43 overs.
