According to the reports in the Telegraph, India, Pakistan, Ireland, the United States and Canada have been clubbed together for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 to be played in the United States of America and West Indies starting from 4th June till 30th June.
A total of 20 teams will take part in the prestigious tournament with 5 in each group. The top two will qualify for the Super 8 stage. From Group A, India and Pakistan qualified directly finishing in the top 8 of World T20 2022 played in Australia. Ireland progressed finishing in the top 2 of the Europe qualifying round while the United States of America qualified to be co-host with West Indies. Canada finished as winners in the Americas qualifiers played between September 30th-7th October 2023.
Group B will see England and Australia qualifying finishing in the top 8 of T20 World Cup 2022. Scotland, Namibia, and Oman progressed doing well during qualifying rounds for their respective regions.
New Zealand progressed after qualifying for the semi-finals of World T20 2022 while West Indies made it into the tournament by being named as hosts. Uganda progressed for the first time from the African region. Afghanistan also performed well finishing in the top 8 of the T20 World Cup 2022.
According to the report, the draw for the Super Eight stage has been pre-decided. Group B comprises of England, Australia, Namibia, Scotland, and Oman. All the matches will be played in the Caribbean. Group A matches would be played in the United States of America.
New Zealand, West Indies, Afghanistan, Uganda and Papua New Guinea comprise of Group C. South Africa, Sri Lanka, Netherlands, Bangladesh and Nepal would consist of Group D. The top two teams in each group will qualify for the Super 8 stage.
According to reports, India will open their tournament against Ireland on June 4th. After this match, they would face arch-rivals Pakistan in New York on June 9. They are likely to play all their Super 8 matches in Barbados which would host the finals to be played on June 30th.
