SA vs IND: “In Test Cricket If You Lose Moments, You Lose The Game”- Sanjay Manjrekar Critiques Rohit Sharma’s Captaincy In IND vs SA Tests

Sanjay Manjrekar suggests that Rohit Sharma, in his role as captain during the two Tests against South Africa, made some basic errors. Manjrekar specifically mentions the decision not to introduce Mohammed Siraj from the other end on Day 2 of the second Test while Jasprit Bumrah was successful from one end.

Rohit Sharma opted for Prasidh Krishna instead, and Aiden Markram took advantage, scoring 20 runs in the first over. Fortunately, according to Manjrekar, the consequences weren’t severe, as Mohammed Siraj had already made an impact in the first innings and went on to dismiss Markram in the second innings.

“In Test cricket if you lose moments, you lose the game. Rohit made mistakes in both Tests and while it cost us massively in the first game, thankfully Siraj had given allowance for the second Test. Siraj bowling just one over when Markram was scoring and the lead swelled to 60 was a mistake.”

Sanjay Manjrekar’s take on the Test future of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli

Sanjay Manjrekar is confident about Rohit Sharma’s Test future, highlighting his classic Test batting qualities. He also foresees Virat Kohli continuing to play, considering him arguably India’s best Test batter, especially in the absence of the injured Rishabh Pant.

On this, he stated (6:53):

“Rohit Sharma is still among the last of the old-school Test batters. Only he can tell us how much Test cricket he wants to play. I think if he wants to extend his Test career, there will be no competition.”

“Virat Kohli I feel will play as long as possible and thankfully for us. This tour in tough conditions just the difference between him and the next best Test batter India has at least until Rishabh Pant is back.”

India will play many cricket matches at home, starting with three T20Is against Afghanistan and later having a five-match Test series against England.
