Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir spoke about the expectations ahead of the upcoming England tour, where India will play a five-match Test series starting later this month. During a pre-departure press conference at the BCCI Headquarters in Mumbai, Gambhir shared his thoughts on handling pressure.

He explained that he feels constant pressure regardless of the team’s results. Under his coaching, India faced defeats in the home Test series against New Zealand and the away series in Australia. However, they bounced back by winning the 2025 Champions Trophy, marking Gambhir’s first major achievement as the national team’s head coach.

“First of all, I am always under pressure. Regardless of whether I would’ve won the Champions Trophy or not. Because being the coach, you want the results. It does not change with winning or losing,” Gambhir said (via The Indian Express).

“I am always under pressure. After New Zealand, yes, I am under pressure. After Australia, I am under pressure. After Champions Trophy, I am under pressure. I am under exactly the same pressure irrespective of results,” he added (via The Times of India).

The opening Test of the series will begin on June 20 at Headingley in Leeds. The remaining four Tests will be held at Edgbaston, Lord’s, Old Trafford, and The Oval.

Gautam Gambhir And Shubman Gill Face Tough Task Without Team Legends

India’s upcoming England tour poses a significant challenge for Gautam Gambhir, coming after consecutive series losses in the format. The tour also marks the start of a new World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, adding extra importance.

Additionally, India will be missing key veterans like Ravichandran Ashwin, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli, who have all retired from Test cricket. Leading the team will be Shubman Gill, recently named the new Test captain.

With his first assignment being an away series in England, Gill faces a tough task, especially without experienced players such as Rohit and Kohli.
