Fans and cricket experts all around the world were awestruck by Rishabh Pant’s counter-attacking innings against England on day one of the ongoing fifth Test matches at the Edgbaston in Birmingham. The Indian team was in trouble at one point, having lost half of the team for 98 runs. However, Rishabh Pant’s brilliant century, well supported by Ravindra Jadeja’s fifty took India to a strong position at the end of the first day’s play.

Rishabh Pant slammed his fifth Test century off just 89 balls, taking the attack to the opposition bowlers. In the fifty-eight over, he pulled a short delivery towards the fine leg and ran for a couple of runs to complete his century. This was the fastest century by an Indian wicket-keeper batter. Rishabh Pant smashed twenty boundaries and four sixes during his stay at the crease.

The Indian wicket-keeper batter was dismissed for 146 runs off 111 deliveries at a strike rate of 131.53. This was his second century in English conditions against the hosts. Rishabh Pant’s knock not only helped India to get out of trouble but also put them in a commanding position.

Let’s take a look at how the fans and experts reacted to Rishabh Pant’s blazing Test century:

India ends Day one in a strong position, after initial hiccups

Owing to Rishabh Pant’s magical knock and Ravindra Jadeja’s fantastic fifty, India ended day one on 338/7. The duo added 222 runs for the sixth wicket in the innings. Ravindra Jadeja is unbeaten on 83 runs off 163 balls, including ten boundaries on day one.

The all-rounder will resume the Indian innings along with Mohammed Shami on day two of the Test match. Earlier in the match, England skipper Ben Stokes won the toss and asked India to bat first. They managed to reduce the Indian team to 98/5, however, Pant and Jadeja’s partnership caught them off guard.
