Former India cricketer Ashish Nehra feels pacer Mohammed Shami is not in the plans for India for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. The mega-event is all set to take place later this year in Australia.

Mohammed Shami last played a T20I for India at the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 against Namibia. In his 17 matches T20I career so far, the pacer has picked only 18 wickets at an average of 31.55 and at a strike rate of 9.54. However, he was in good form in the recently concluded Indian Premier League.

Shami was the leading wicket-taker for the Gujarat Titans franchise this season. He was a key member of their title-winning campaign. However, Shami wasn’t picked for the India vs South Africa T20I series, as the selectors gave chance to the youngsters. Former India cricketer Ashish Nehra has expressed that Shami does not seem to be in India’s plans for the World Cup.

“It seems like he is not in the plans at the moment (for T20 World Cup). But, if the management needs Shami, we all know his abilities as a bowler. I can understand if he doesn’t play in the T20 World Cup. He will continue to play Test cricket, and even if you want to give chance to young players, they should definitely consider him for the 50-over World Cup next year,” Ashish Nehra said during an interaction with Cricbuzz.

I would definitely take Mohammed Shami in the ‘best bowlers’ bracket: Ashish Nehra

The Indian team is all set to play three ODIs against England in July after the completion of the fifth Test and the T20I series. Ashish Nehra feels India should pick Mohammed Shami for the ODI series. He expressed that Shami is in the “best bowlers” bracket.

“We don’t have many ODIs this year and Shami is on a break at the moment after IPL. India can play him in England for the 50-over games after the Test match. You will play three ODI games against a top-quality white-ball team like England, and you would definitely love to beat them. And for that, you need your best bowlers. I would definitely take Shami in that bracket,” Ashish Nehra said.
